When it comes to EB5 investments, opportunity cost is a key consideration – especially given the fact that most traditional EB5 projects would have a minimum hold period of 6+ years, and paid yields of only around 1% per year.
This long hold period timeline dovetailed well with earlier EB5 Visa Program legislation, which required a minimum investment timeline of 5+ years.
The EB5 Reform and Integrity Act (RIA) of 2022 changed all that. And currently, the minimum hold period on EB% investments is just two years. (But EB5 property projects – typically massive hotel or commercial builds – cannot be completed within such a short timeframe).
As of mid-January 2024, the EB5 Rural Project (hence only $800,000) with the shortest minimum hold period is an opportunity in the Oil and Gas sector.
Boasting an investment timeframe of around only 2.5-3 years, and offering targeted returns of up to 50%, the project seeks to address the “opportunity cost” challenge. And instead, seeks to recognize and reward EB5 applicants for their contribution in the spirit of the American Dream.
